Kerala Ayurveda - The Heritage
Kerala is credited with a leading role in the field of Ayurveda both inside and outside of India. It is known as the land that has preserved the traditional knowledge of Ayurveda as prescribed in the scriptures in an unadulterated manner to the present day. As a result, Ayurveda as an alternative medicine, is practiced also widely in Kerala. The richness of nature in this region, as well as the unbroken tradition over thousands of years, is the reason why Ayurveda has been preserved here in its originality. In all cities and even in every small villages of Kerala one could find Ayurvedic pharmacies that stock hundreds of Ayurvedic medicines. There are hundreds of smaller and larger Ayurvedic medicine manufacturers, as well as medical practisioners and clinics where many people seek cure every day. All of this impressively demonstrates the important and vital role that Ayurveda still plays in the people of Kerala today. To complete this list, the 16 Ayurveda colleges that are located in this small state, which occupies just 1.2% of the total land area of India, should be mentioned here.

The Chempankulam Ayurveda pharmacy, which was founded in 1964, can now look back on a tradition of several generations of Ayurveda practice.
